Chief Anthony Enebeli Egobueze, an alumnus of University of Wales, Cardiff, United Kingdom, University of Benin, Nigeria, and old Boy of Holy Ghost College, Umuahia was a distinguished elder and community leader of Ndoni extraction.
Early Life & Education Career
Growing up in Aligwu and Ndoni, Anthony exhibited an early passion for learning, which propelled him into a career in education. He dedicated his life to teaching, serving as a Teacher, Headmaster and Principal in various schools across the region. His tenure was characterized by focus on academic excellence and the holistic development of students, emphasizing moral and ethical education alongside academics.
Chief Egobueze understood the transformative power of education and worked tirelessly to ensure that children in his community received quality instruction. Under his leadership, many schools flourished, especially Kananga Primary School Ndoni, Sacta Maria High School Omoku, and Baptist High School, Port Harcourt becoming centres of excellence that inspired generations.
Public Service & Administration
Chief Egobueze's influence extended beyond the classroom. He was actively involved in numerous State activities, shaping educational policies and local governance in Rivers State. His insightful contributions were marked by a deep understanding of the challenges facing the educational sector, civil service and a relentless pursuit of solutions.
As a member of Post Primary Schools Board, he advocated for improved educational infrastructure and teacher training, ensuring that the voices of the grassroots were represented in decision-making processes. As Chairman of Rivers State Civil Service Commission, on the approval of the then Governor, His Excellency Sir Dr. Peter Odili, the Commission employed new staff that injected vibrancy into service. Today, most of those staff employed under his watch as Chairman are at directorate cadre in the Civil and Public Service of Rivers State.
Philanthropy & Humanitarian Work
In addition to his administrative endeavours, Chief Egobueze was renowned for his philanthropic work. He believed in the importance of giving back to the community and dedicated a significant portion of his resources to empower the less privileged. His philanthropic initiatives included providing scholarships to deserving students, supporting widows to start up businesses, and contributing to community development projects. As President General of Ndoni Community-Nigeria, his administration resolved the Chieftaincy conflict that engulfed the community. As the Isagba-Ajieh of Ndoni, Chief Egobueze held a significant traditional title that underscored his status as a custodian of culture and tradition as the third highest stool in Ndoni community. Legacy
Sadly, Chief Anthony Enebeli Egobueze passed away on 10th of June, 2010, when he was gruesomely murdered by unknown hired killers, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire many. His contributions to education, philanthropy, and community development are etched in the memories of those he touched.
